Description
US Eddystone 1917 30-06 Sporter. Flaming bomb markings. 1918-1919 MFG. Bore is in very good condition.
The U.S. Model of 1917 (often called the “American Enfield”) was a bolt-action rifle chambered in .30-06. Primarily manufactured by the EDDYSTONE MODEL 1917 RIFLE arsenal in Pennsylvania, these rifles armed nearly three-quarters of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I.The M1917 was initially designed as the British Pattern 14 chambered in .303 British, but was adapted by U.S. factories to fire the standard American .30-06 cartridge. This decision was made because the U.S. lacked the manufacturing capacity to produce enough .03 Springfields, and factories in the U.S. were already tooled up to produce the British rifles. Eddystone (a subsidiary of Remington) produced the vast majority of these rifles, turning out over 1.1 million units between 1917 and 1919
