Winchester has been awarded a $9 million US Military contract for exploring tracer ammunition production for the Army’s new 6.8 mm Common Cartridge. The 6.8 mm cc was developed by Sig Sauer and was chosen by the US military as its new cartridge for the Sig XM5 rifle and the Sig XM250 automatic rifle. Winchester is currently the largest producer of small arms ammo for the military and is the operator of the U.S. government owned, 4000 acre Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, MO.
